On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we would like to invite you to the International Conference on Hydrogen Medicine & Biology, Tokyo 2025. Hydrogen health medical biology has made remarkable progress over the past 18 years. Starting from basic research, the challenge is now to put it into practical use in society. It is expected not only to improve and treat serious diseases, but also to improve the quality of life of healthy people and contribute to the agriculture and fisheries industries. The diverse effects and efficacy of molecular hydrogen, as well as its characteristic of having almost no side effects are expected to go far beyond conventional wisdom and contribute to the welfare of mankind.
This conference will be held from November 7th to November 9th, 2025 at the Hideoki Ogawa Auditorium, Juntendo University, Tokyo, as a joint conference of the 5th annual conference of International Society for Hydrogen Medical Biology (ISHMB) with the 14th annual conference of Japanese BioMedical Society for Molecular Hydrogen Society for Molecular Hydrogen (JBMSH2), which is responsible for organizing this entire conference.
The main purpose of this conference is to promote the formation of a global academic hydrogen community. At the same time, we hope to contribute to the development of the hydrogen health industry by serving as a bridge between different fields and between industry and academia. Many challenges remain before practical application can be realized. Furthermore, this conference will be an opportunity to promote the development of hydrogen medicine to media around the world.
We look forward to welcoming researchers, clinical experts, business people, media personnel, and everyone interested in this field to this international conference.
Sincerely yours

Theme
Science creates Practice. Practice shines Science.
The symbol is a bridge with two "H's" side by side, which symbolizes the bridging between various fields and between academic and industrial societies.
The predecessor of the Biomedical Society for Molecular Hydrogen (JBMSH2) was founded in 2011. Since then, the number of scientific papers on molecular hydrogen in the field of life sciences has increased year by year. It is clear that a great many researchers around the world are attracted to the potential of molecular hydrogen and are conducting a wide variety of research on it.
Research includes research on the treatment of diseases such as cerebral infarction, neurodegenerative diseases, and metabolic syndrome, as well as research on the maintenance, recovery, and improvement of health, such as anti-aging and anti-fatigue.
In addition, the number of research reports in the agricultural field, such as the promotion of crop growth, is also increasing year by year. There are a variety of methods for administering molecular hydrogen in these studies, including not only inhalation of hydrogen gas, but also hydrogen water containing high concentrations of molecular hydrogen, hydrogen-containing infusions, and more.
Numerous animal models and human clinical studies have demonstrated that molecular hydrogen has the diverse effects including anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, anti-cell death, anti-allergy effects, stimulation of energy metabolism and immuno-system. Research into the mechanism by which this effect is exerted at the molecular level is also progressing. Research into molecular hydrogen medicine is interdisciplinary, and it is essential to have exchanges with researchers from fields other than life sciences, such as physics, chemistry, and even engineering. Our society will continue to move forward steadily in order to contribute to the happiness and welfare of humanity.
First of all, as President of JBMSH2, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Professor Shigeo Ohta for his energetic preparation of this wonderful international conference to be held in Tokyo in joining with the 14th annual meeting of JBMSH2.
Research for molecular hydrogen in the life sciences, including medicine, health sciences and agriculture has made great strides in the past two decades. In 2007, we published the seminal paper from Japan in Nature Medicine, showing the possibility of treating cerebral infarction by inhalation of hydrogen gas. Since then, researchers in Japan and many other countries around the world have undertaken new studies, the number of scientific papers on molecular hydrogen in the life science field has increased every year, and now more than 100 papers are published annually. JBMSH2 founded in 2011 is a group of researchers in basic and applied sciences with a scientific worldview that objectively verifies scientific theories based on logic and imagination. Our society operates under Japanese law as a general incorporated association, and annual conference has been held each year in Tokyo, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and other locations in Japan. Our aspirations and activities are sponsored by many companies (currently 27 companies). We would like to take this opportunity to thank them.
The members of JBMSH2 look forward to meeting you all in the heart of Tokyo during this beautiful season of autumn.
The International Society for Hydrogen Medicine and Biology (ISHMB) was founded in 2018. The establishment of the International Society for Hydrogen Medicine and Biology (ISHMB) was proposed by experts in the field of hydrogen biomedicine, mainly from China, Japan, Korea, Europe, and the United States, and ISHMB was launched as a federation of academic societies from each country. Therefore, we will hold the ISHMB conference as a joint conference with academic conferences in each country. It is an academic, non-political, non-profit organization. The purpose of this society is to strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation in the field of international hydrogen biomedical research, guide and supervise the hydrogen industry, and promote the healthy development of hydrogen biomedical and bioindustry.
The discovery of the selective antioxidant effect and biological effects of hydrogen at low concentrations is a major event of this century, which has led to a worldwide research boom and application achievements of hydrogen molecules, and has shown people the broad application prospects of hydrogen molecules in the fields of medicine, health, and agriculture. ISHMB is an international organization for hydrogen medicine and hydrogen biology established in 2017. The initiators of the organization and the scholars attending the founding conference of the organization come from China, Japan, South Korea, the United States, and Europe. Since its establishment, four academic conferences and executive council meetings have been held in Beijing and Haikou, China, as well as Seoul and Jeju, Korea.
I am an expert in basic medicine and geriatrics from China, receiving professional training in cardiovascular clinical practice and basic research on lipid metabolism in both China and the United States. Atherosclerosis and abnormal lipid metabolism have been my research direction for more than 30 years, and more than 280 papers have been published. I proposed the role and mechanism of lipoproteins (a), high-density lipoproteins and phospholipid transporters in atherosclerosis and abnormal lipid metabolism. Since 2009, I have focused on the research of exogenous hydrogen supplementation and endogenous regulation of cargo receptor Surf4, observing their effects on lipid metabolism diseases and the feasibility of using them as potential therapeutic targets. I have proposed the protective and restorative effects of hydrogen molecules on the function of lipoprotein particles in the blood, and published two monographs, "Population Trial of Hydrogen Medicine" and "Fundamentals and Applications of Hydrogen Medicine".
This conference in Tokyo is the fifth academic conference, personally chaired and organized by Professor Shigeo Ohta. Sincerely thank Professor Shigeo Ohta for his hard work and dedication to this conference.
On behalf of ISHMB, I would like to welcome experts, scholars, and industrialists in hydrogen medicine and hydrogen biology from around the world to participate in this grand event.
